Autonomous Vehicle (AV)
An autonomous vehicle is a car or truck capable of driving with reduced or no human supervision, conventionally graded by the SAE J3016 levels from driver assistance (Level 1-2) through conditional autonomy (Level 3) to full self-driving within an operational design domain (Level 4-5). Production systems combine cameras, radar, and often LiDAR with HD maps, learned perception and prediction, and increasingly end-to-end learned driving policies; Waymo operates commercial Level 4 robotaxi services.
Why it matters for physical AI
Self-driving pioneered the playbook now applied to robot manipulation at scale: fleet data engines, simulation-heavy validation, end-to-end learned policies, and safety cases for learned components in the physical world.
Build physical AI
Put these concepts to work on real hardware
Axol is a dual-arm robot built for physical AI — teleoperate it, collect demonstrations, and deploy learned policies out of the box.
