Material Handling

Material handling is the movement, storage, protection, and control of goods throughout manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. Robotic material handling spans palletizing and depalletizing, case and tote transport by autonomous mobile robots, conveyor induction, truck unloading, and machine tending. It is among the largest application categories for industrial robots because the tasks are repetitive, physically demanding, and often ergonomically hazardous for human workers.

Why it matters for physical AI

High volumes, structured goals, and measurable throughput make material handling the commercial beachhead where learned grasping and navigation first meet production-grade reliability requirements.

Put these concepts to work on real hardware

Axol is a dual-arm robot built for physical AI — teleoperate it, collect demonstrations, and deploy learned policies out of the box.
