Carbon fiber composite is a material made of carbon fiber reinforcement embedded in a polymer matrix, offering exceptional stiffness-to-weight and strength-to-weight ratios compared to aluminum or steel. In robotics it is used for arm links, drone frames, and humanoid limb structures where reducing moving mass lowers inertia, boosts payload-to-weight ratio, and improves dynamic response. Drawbacks include cost, difficulty of machining, and brittle failure modes under impact.
