Haptic Feedback

Haptic feedback is the rendering of force, vibration, or tactile cues to a human operator so they can feel interactions occurring at a remote or virtual robot. In bilateral teleoperation, forces measured or estimated at the follower robot are reflected to the leader device, closing a kinesthetic loop that improves performance on contact-rich tasks like insertion and suturing.

Operators with force feedback produce gentler, more successful contact-rich demonstrations, improving both teleoperated task completion and the quality of data collected for training manipulation policies.
