Xavier (NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier)
Xavier (NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier) is an embedded system-on-module for edge AI, released in 2018, that pairs an 8-core ARM CPU with a 512-core Volta GPU and dedicated deep learning accelerators, delivering up to 32 TOPS within a 10 to 30 W power envelope. It became a standard onboard computer for drones, quadrupeds, and mobile manipulators before being superseded by the Jetson Orin generation.
Why it matters for physical AI
Onboard inference budgets dictate which policies can run untethered, and the Jetson line defined the compute class around which a generation of autonomous robots, and the quantization tricks to fit models onto them, was designed.
