Titanium

Titanium is a structural metal prized in robotics for its high strength-to-weight ratio, roughly half the density of steel at comparable strength, along with corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and a relatively low thermal expansion coefficient. Its cost and difficult machining restrict it to weight-critical or demanding components, such as legged robot structural parts, surgical robot instruments, prosthetics, and aerospace manipulators, with titanium 3D printing easing some manufacturing constraints.

Why it matters for physical AI

Every gram removed from a moving link reduces actuator torque requirements and energy use, so material choices like titanium versus aluminum or carbon fiber shape the payload, endurance, and safety envelope of dynamic robots.
